Challenge Camp for Children with ADHD/Emotional/Behavioral
Oconomowoc, Waukesha County
This day camp has been designed by Rogers Memorial Hospital especially for children ages 9-17 who experience the challenges of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dual diagnoses such as depression and anxiety. In a supportive environment, children will participate in activities that help improve self-esteem and social skills as well as teach temper control and coping techniques.
Adolescents 12 -17 years with ADHD have an opportunity to participate as Mentors/Leaders/Counselors in Training (MLCIT's). This program is designed to provide our returning campers with further challenges and unique opportunities to build upon previous years' work. While participating in camp activities, MLCITs will have guidance in assuming leadership roles with other campers. Under the supervision of a camp counselor, the MLCIT's will learn and teach problem solving skills, conflict resolution, social skills and responsibility.
The camp location overlooks the Nashotah Lakes on 50 picturesque acres. Camp staff is specifically trained in ADHD, child development and Ropes & Challenge Course initiatives. A registered nurse and child and adolescent psychiatrist oversee the program. The camp lead works for Rogers Memorial Hospital on a year round basis and has a background in special education.
