City Ballet Theatre: Summer Youth Arts Camps
Milwaukee, Milwaukee County
City Ballet Theatre (CBT) was founded in 1986. CBT began as a dance school and today, hosts a professional performance company and has an established reputation for its outreach programs in area schools.
CBT’s Summer Youth Arts Camp began in 1991 with 2 teachers and 20 students. This summer, CBT will accept 60 students, divided into four classes, based on age and dance experience. Students are engaged daily in ballet, hip hop, African dance classes and theater workshops. Visual arts projects become the costumes, props, and sets for the final performance.
Students bring their own lunches Monday through Thursday. CBT will provide special Friday lunches. Several field trips are also scheduled during the course of the camp. CBT supports DEAR (Drop Everything and Read). Students bring books from home and read during the after lunch resting period.
Over the course of the summer, students work on dance presentations that culminate in a matinee performance on August 1 and a final performance for family and friends on August 2.
