"The Dane County Humane Society offers week-long day camps for children ages 7-14. Campers participate in many hands-on activities and animal interactions to help foster humane values and learn about pet care, biology, behavior, and the important role humans play in animals’ lives. New for 2005: three different camps to choose from. Animal Careers This is for campers interested in exploring jobs with animals. It is offered in sessions for 9-11 year olds and 10-14 year olds. The lessons are more involved and challenging than the two other strands. Guest speakers include animal professionals, and opportunities for helping out DCHS care staff and vet staff. Wildlife Offered for campers in all age groups, 7-9, 9-11, and 10-14 year olds. The focus is on wild animals, ecology, wildlife care and field zoology, which are covered by guest speakers and camp staff. As with other strands, projects, service time and lessons are also all oriented to the strand topic. Animal Guardians Introduces concepts of caring for pet animals. It is geared for young pet owners or those interested in pets. Participants learn how to feed and care for a wide variety of pets. From small mammals, to reptiles and birds, campers learn how to set up cages, dietary requirements, and other pet care issues."
