"The purpose of Conservation Camp is to introduce youth to the wide variety of opportunities in natural resources and conservation careers, provide them with positive and educational outdoor experiences, and to help them better appreciate and understand nature. Sessions cover a wide variety of information and hands-on experiences such as wildlife habitat, water quality, fisheries, invasive species, and forestry. Natural resource professionals lead the sessions, serve as counselors, and give campers an inside look at different careers available in the natural resources and conservation fields. Outdoor activities such as canoeing, orienteering/GPS, hiking, swimming, and fishing are also presented in sessions or are available during scheduled free time. Sand Lake Conservation Camp sponsors include Marinette County Land & Water Conservation, UW-Extension, and Parks/Forestry/Outdoor Recreation Division; the WI Department of Natural Resources; the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; and Wisconsin Public Service."
