|Urban Wilderness Camp is Hartley Nature Center's traveling variety show. Each week of camp takes place at a different city park in Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin. Programming is designed to utilize the offerings of the featured location. Activities are designed to balance elements of recreation, education, conservation and community. |
We do things like swim in local creeks, search for crayfish, find agates, safely eat wild plants and berries, explore, play forest and field games, make up games, paddle canoes, cook over fires, tie knots, set up tarps, hike on the Superior Hiking Trail, bike on the Munger Trail, Swim at Wisconsin Point, navigate the Superior Municipal Forest, work and play as a team, and take care of our local urban wilderness.
Participants sign up for one week at a time (Mon thru Thurs, 9 am to 3:30 pm). Drop off as early as 8:30 am, pick up as late as 4 pm.
Each week is based at a different park, where participants are dropped off and picked up. This year, we are using the following parks:
Billings Park, Superior
Lester Park, Duluth
Lower Chester Park, Duluth
Fairmont Park, Duluth
June 25-28 Lester Park - Duluth
July 9-12 Billings Park - Superior
July 30-Aug 2 Fairmont Park - Duluth
Aug 6-9 Chester Park - Duluth
