UWM Summer Music Institute
Milwaukee, Milwaukee County
| The Summer Music Institute is a comprehensive summer music camp that is dedicated to young musicians. NEW for 2003 is the Chamber Winds Camp (open to students completing grades 8-11 and with at least 3 years of experience on their instrument). Chamber Winds students will participate in small and large ensemble settings and work closely with UWM faculty on works that target the standard chamber wind ensembles. Students in the orchestra and band camp (open to students completing grades 6-10) play in a large ensemble and have the option to take private lessons on their instrument. Students in the Harp or Piano Camp (open to students completing grades 7-11 and with at least 3 years of experience on their instrument) study instrument pedagogy and take lessons daily on their instrument with UWM Faculty. All students will experience instruction in music theory, composition, improvisation and participation in instrumental master classes. Recitals each evening will feature faculty and students with the final camp performance by the large ensembles Saturday morning. Supervised recreational and informational activities will also be an integral part of the camp. All boarding students will be housed at Sandburg Residence Hall on campus at UWM.
