For more than 100 years, Wisconsin lighthouses have guided ships through our Great Lakes and inland waters. More than 30 of these historic structures are still standing and many are still serving their original purpose. Some are open to the public and several offer tours.

Port Washington Breakwater Light
A 1930's art deco lighthouse, found at the end of the north breakwall, replaced the 1889 pier head.

Algoma Lighthouse
Built in 1893, updated in 1932. Operational, but no tours. Located at the end of North Pier in Algoma Harbor.

Ashland Breakwater Lighthouse
Built in 1913. No tours.

Bailey's Harbor Lighthouse
Built 1851-52. Located on North Point Island at the entrance to Bailey's Harbor from Lake Michigan. Privately owned. Not accessible and not open for tours.

Bailey's Harbor Range Lights
Built in 1870, automated in 1969. Self-guided tours at the Ridges Sanctuary. Accessible year-round.

Cana Island Lighthouse
Built in 1869. 89 feet tall. Operational. Grounds open 10 am to 5 pm daily. Keeper's house open May through October. No picnics. Limited parking. Admission fee. Halway between North Bay and Moonlight Bay on E side of Door County peninsula.

Chambers Island Lighthouse
Built in 1868. 40-acre day park since 1976. Open to the public when caretaker is present (most weekends and some weekdays from June 15 through Labor Day).

Devils Island Lighthouse
Built in 1898. 82-foot tower and two Queen Anne-style keeprs' dwellings can be viewed May through October. Devils Island (the northernmost point in Wisconsin) has a dock at its south end and a rock landing near the lighthouse which is accessible to boats in calm weather. National Park Service volunteers provide guided tours daily from 9 am to 4 pm from mid-June through Labor Day.

Eagle Bluff Lighthouse
Built in 1868. Keeper's dwelling is completely restored. Guided tours daily from Memorial Day through the third weekend of October, 10 am to 4:30 pm. Admission fee. Located in Peninsula State Park between Ephraim and Fish Creek. Park entry pass required.

Fond du Lac Lighthouse
Built in 1932. Self-guided tours from 8 am to dusk. Closed in winter. Located at the north end of Main St in Lakeside Park.

Kenosha North Pier Head Light
Built in 1906. 50 feet tall. It is made of rivited steel plates. No tours. On the end of Kenosha North Pier.

Kenosha Southport Lighthouse
55 feet tall, this lighthouse was constructed in 1866 and served as a navigation aid until 1906 at which time the light was extinguished. Following a transfer in the mid-1950s to the City of Kenosha the light was again relit in 1994, although it no longer serves in an official capacity. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Call for tour availability. Located on Simmons Island adjacent to Simmons Island Park.

Kewaunee Pier Lighthouse
Built in 1891, rebuilt in 1930, automated in 1981. 45 feet tall. Full operational year-round with both a main light and a fog signal. Unmanned, no tours.

La Pointe Lighthouse
Built in 1895. The 67-foot lighthouse can be viewed from an excursion boat. Long Island is accessible by boat, but has no docks. Not open for tours.

Long Tail Point Lighthouse
Lighthouse ruin accessible only by boat. No tours. Structure not safe for climbing. Located in Long Tail Point State Wildlife Area.

Green Bay of Lake Michigan, Brown County.
Manitowoc Breakwater Light
Built in 1918. 39 feet tall. The lighthouse itself is not open, but the public may walk out to it.

Michigan Island Lighthouse
Built in 1857. A 112-foot tower was added to the station in 1929. Michigan Island has a dock and is accessible by boat. Special cruises offer views of the station. National Park Service volunteers offer guided tours daily from 9 am to 4 pm from mid-June through Labor Day.

Neenah Lighthouse
Built in 1945. Not open for tours, but the fishing deck is open for public use. Handicapped accessible. Restrooms open all summer. On Lakeshore Ave (at the end of Wisconsin Ave) in Kimberly Point Park.

Lake Winnebago, Neenah, Winnebago County.
North Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1855, a new iron structure 30 feet high was built 100 feet inland in 1888, when it threatened to slide down the bluff and into Lake Michigan. A Queen Anne style house was built in 1888 as a keeper's quarters and still stands today. When trees overgrew the height of the light, the tower was dismantled and a new steel base was constructed, with the iron original reassembled on top. 72' high. Work completed in 1912. Open every Saturday of the year, 1 pm - 4 pm. Group tour by request.

Outer Island Lighthouse
Built in 1874. Outer Island has a dock and is accessible by boat. Special cruises offer views of the station. National Park Service volunteers offer guided tours of the station daily from 9 am to 4 pm from mid-June through Labor Day.

Peshtigo Reef Lighthouse
Built in 1934. 72 feet tall. Accessible only by boat. No tours. Located 13 miles ENE of Oconto, three miles offshore of Peshtigo Point.

Pilot Island Lighthouse
Built in 1851. Cloed to the public, no tours. Located at the northern tip of the Door County peninsula. Shoreline Charters operates a boat tour out of Gills Rock that goes past the lighthouse for viewing and photography.

Plum Island Lighthouse
Built in 1897, automated in 1969. Active US Coast Guard installation spring through autumn. No tours, however, Shoreline Charters operates a boat tour out of Gills Rock that goes past Plum Island for viewing and photography, from mid-May through mid-October.

Port Washington 1860 Lighthouse
Also called the Port Washington 1860 Light Station. Restored by Port Washington Historical Society, nineteenth century lighthouse and local history museum. Open Saturdays 11 - 4 pm, Sundays noon - 4 pm, mid May through mid October. Group tours by reservation year round. Admission charge.

Raspberry Island Lighthouse
Built in 1857. Raspberry Island has a dock and is accessible by boat. Excursion boats visit the island regularly from late June to mid-August. National Park Service volunteers offer guided trous of the station daily 9 am to 4 pm from mid-June through Labor Day.

Rawley Point Lighthouse
Built in 1884. 111 feet tall. Easy access from Point Beach State Forest. No tours.

Rock Island Lighthouse
Built in 1858. 41 feet tall. The public may walk up to it but can't enter. Located on Rock Island at the very top of the Door County peninsula.

Rockwell Lighthouse
Built in 1909. Privately owned. No tours.

Lake Winnebago, 6 Lake St, Oshkosh, Winnebago County.
Sand Island Lighthouse
Built in 1881. The 44-foot tower and lighthouse were built from locally quarried brownstone. Sand Island has a dock and is accessible by boat. Excursion boats visit the island regularly from late June to mid-August. This excursion leaves you at Sand Island for three hours, which allows time for the two-mile hike to the lighthouse. National Park Service volunteers offer guided tours of the station daily from 9 am to 4 pm, mid-June through Labor Day.

Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse
Built in 1915. 55 feet tall. Working fog horn. No tours. Located on the harbor's north breakwall in Deland Park. View from the shore or reach the lighthouse via the stone and concrete breakwater.

Sherwood Point Lighthouse
Built in 1883. The last lighthouse to be automated, in 1983. Not open for tours.

Sturgeon Bay Canal Station
Built in 1899. The US Coast Guard Station. The lighthouse towers are not open for tours.

Two Rivers Lighthouse
Built in 1886. Now part of the Historic Rogers Street Fishing Village Museum, including tours of the lighthouse and a 1936 fishing tug. Open May through October from 10 am to 4 pm daily, November through April by appointment.

Wind Point Lighthouse
Built in 1880. 112 feet high. Believed to be the oldest and tallest lighthouse still operating on the Great Lakes. Grounds always open. Tours run from 10 - 5 pm and there is a $10 per person admission. Space is limited, reservations are strongly suggested.

Lake Michigan, 4725 Lighthouse Dr, Racine, Racine County.
Wisconsin Point Lighthouse
Built in 1913. Located at the west pierhead entrance to Superior harbor, the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse replaced the previous lighthouse on the easterly end of Minnesota Point. Accessible by concrete walkways, but not open for tours. Two lighthouse keeper residences are nearby.
