 Alien Attack Drop In at the Beach
Saturday, August 20, 2016. 1-4 pm. We're being invaded not by outer space aliens, but by alien plants & animals. Uncover what foreign species are taking over our native communities & what can be done to help control their spread. You will have a chance to make several unique crafts including a smashed-plant bandanna. Bring your own bandanna or purchase one that day for a small fee. Thursday, August 25, 2016. 6:30 pm. At one time prairies covered much of the southern half of Wisconsin. Journey through the tall grasses to unearth what plants and animals call these remarkable communities home. Join Martha Bergland & Paul Hayes, authors of Studying Wisconsin: the Life of Increase Lapham, as they provide insights in the life of Increase Lapham, Wisconsin's pioneer citizen-scientist. Lapham studied Wisconsin from 1836 until his death in 1875.  Earthquakes in Wisconsin - The Dog That Didn't Bark Evening Nature Program
Thursday, October 13, 2016. 7 - 8:30 pm. Wisconsin has had roughly 18 recorded earthquakes in the last 120 years with none measuring greater than a magnitude of 4. Illinois and Missouri have experienced more and many with greater magnitudes. What makes Wisconsin so different? Join David Hart, PhD, hydrogeologist with the Dept. of Environmental Sciences at UW-Madison, as he examines several responses to that question. Friday, October 14, 2016. 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Come marvel at the magnificent mammals including the odiferous striped skunk, swift whitetail deer, crafty raccoon, and sneaky white-footed mouse. This is not a scary hike and is best for those over 5 years of age. Groups leave every six minutes. The last hour-long hike leaves at 8:30 pm. While waiting for your hike, enjoy playing fun-filled games, making a craft to take home, or snacking by the glow of a campfire.
