 'Dead Man's Cell Phone'

 Alverno Presents Toshi Reagon
Saturday, November 14, 2009. 8pm. In some ways, Reagon is a throwback to classic R & B artists such as Stevie Wonder or Prince, or old school rock groups like Led Zeppelin. Despite (or because of) her genre-bending, Reagon fits comfortably on a stage at Carnegie Hall or in a dingy rock club. Both her parents belonged to the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee's (SNCC) The Freedom Singers, a folk group that sprung from the Civil Rights movement and toured the country to teach people about civil rights through song. $22.  Basket Making Workshop - Ribbed Egg Basket or Melon Basket
Saturday, November 14, 2009. 9am to 4pm. Construct the frame with God's eyes on wood hoops. Insert ribs to form the shape. Creativity is encouraged through the use of weaving materials in a variety of colors. Beginning students will make a Melon Basket (top right). Experienced students may make an Egg Basket which also involves the technique of "turn backs" to fill in the shape. Finished size on either basket is 10" diameter at the rim x 10" high.  "Autumn Heart" Opens Season

Highlighting "Autumn Heart" will be three guest choreographers as well as guest dancers from Mpls-based Footholds Dance Company. Georgia Corner, former principal dancer with the acclaimed Erik Hawkins Dance Co will create a dance in counterpoint to the music. The music begins in harmony and moves to disharmony; the dance will start in disharmony and move toward harmony.  "From Earth to the Universe"
Thursday, October 15, 2009 through Sunday, November 15, 2009. Wonders from the far reaches of the universe will be brought down to Earth. A collection of 40 striking images of galaxies, planets and more will be on public display. The colorful exhibit is part of a worldwide celebration of the International Year of Astronomy, 400 years since Galileo used his telescope to peer beyond the Earth.
