We'll start our adventures with a hike and seed scavenger hunt to learn the many ways in which seeds can travel. Collect and plant prairie seeds, and make a seed ball to take home. Segal (1924-2000) used plaster, found objects, and an innovative working process to make his life-scale works. Focusing on human interactions and everyday events in the urban setting, the exhibition includes works from the 1960s, when Segal first began using plaster, to the 1980s and 1990s, as he documented the effects of economic change. Sunday, November 15, 2009 through Tuesday, December 15, 2009. A collection of 40 striking images of galaxies, planets and more will be on public display. The colorful exhibit, "From Earth to the Universe," is part of a worldwide celebration of the International Year of Astronomy, marking 400 years since Galileo first used his telescope to peer beyond the Earth. Local exhibit organizer Laura Trouille, a UW astronomy graduate student, was awarded a NASA International Year of Astronomy Ambassador grant to develop an exhibit for Wisconsin audiences.
