The massive work responds to weather conditions at the Arts Center. Changes in the wind direction trigger the components to move and temperature changes are reflected in the sculpture's internal lighting. Viewers entering the immense interior space of the sculptured coil are immersed in cloth forms attached to the coil's frames, each form reminiscent of an elongated, fluted stamen from an enormous flower. Her subject matter "the vulnerability of animal species" is brought into the documentary realm as she photographs her slip-cast frogs and pigeons in outdoor landscapes, bearing witness to the endangered animal in its natural environment. Free. John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 608 New York Ave, Sheboygan, Sheboygan County. Call 920-458-6144. Subjects: Art [E-92399]
Wade Kavanaugh and Stephen B. Nguyen: Rush to Rest
Friday, April 12, 2013 through Sunday, September 22, 2013. Rush to Rest, by New York artists Wade Kavanaugh and Stephen B. Nguyen, is a response to the colossal seasonal ice sheets that founder on the Sheboygan lakefront in winter. Rush to Rest exaggerates the mass and color of the frozen expanse as well as the tangible manifestations of wind and water that generate it. This immersive installation draws attention to the power and poetry of wind and water-two elements of nature that promise a way toward a renewable future. Free. John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 608 New York Ave, Sheboygan, Sheboygan County. Call 920-458-6144. Subjects: Art [E-92834]
