 Changes in Populations, Distribution of WI Bird Species
Tuesday, February 2, 2010. 7-8:30 pm. We know that birds react to their surroundings in many ways. For many species these changes can be determined and followed through research and monitoring programs. However, it is often unclear why these changes are occurring, and this becomes a real challenge when populations are declining noticeably or distribution ranges are shrinking.  Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 13, 2010. 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. Learn more about Wisconsin's winter bird residents and join tens of thousands of everyday bird watchers for the 13th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC)! This national event, organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, is an opportunity for families, students, and people of all ages to engage in real citizen science.  Arboretum Walks: Winter Birds and Animal Tracks
Sunday, February 14, 2010. 1pm birds; 1:30 animal tracks. Look for winter birds. Cardinals may be singing, chickadees and nuthatches changing their tunes and woodpeckers drumming. Discover how our feathered friends have been doing this winter. In the family walk from 1:30-2:30 p.m., animal tracks are easy to spot in the snow and mud.  Central Wisconsin Prairie Chicken Festival
Friday, April 16, 2010 through Sunday, April 18, 2010. varied each day. This is the 5th year for the Festival - a "Celebration of Grasslands". Make your reservations now to view Wisconsin's Greater Prairie-chickens. The highlighted location is the Buena Vista Wildlife Area, home to more than 200 recorded bird species. Other locations include state wildlife areas: Leola, Mead and Paul Olson. The Historic Point Basse, and Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater also have activities.
