 Field Trip: Two Creeks Buried Forest
Saturday, May 4, 2019. 9:30 am. Learn about the famous spruce forest that was buried by a glacier in Wisconsin, then travel to see its remains. The wood is not petrified, but is remarkably well preserved. Participants must be able to hike down (and back up) a steep slope. Wear clothes and shoes that can get muddy.  Egypt
Monday, July 15, 2019. 9 am - 3 pm. Learn about mummies, pyramids, and the people who lived in Egypt at the time of the pharaohs! Hands-on activities will include making a mummy case and mask, and writing a message in hieroglyphics. Cancellations prior to June 28 will receive a full refund minus a $40 cancellation fee. No refunds for cancellations after June 28. This program is for students entering grades 4-6.  Introduction to Archaeology
Tuesday, July 16, 2019. 9 am - 3 pm. Explore MVAC's Archaeology Lab and work with artifacts recovered from area excavations as an introduction to the science of archaeology. Students must take this class in order to attend the Middle School Field Experience. This program is for students entering grades 5-9. Cancellations prior to June 28 will receive a full refund minus a $40 cancellation fee. No refunds for cancellations after June 28. This day-camp encourages interests in science and math by giving boys hands-on learning and activities in an environment that is supportive, enriching and - most importantly - fun! The boys work with UW-La Crosse faculty and staff who encourage experimentation, investigation and involvement in the fields of math and science. $129 by May 19, $149 thereafter. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 through Wednesday, June 26, 2019. 7:30 am - 3:15 pm. Learn/perform field and laboratory techniques used by scientists studying local waters. Collect/identify macroinvertebrates. Identify/learn about aquatic plants, trees, reptiles & amphibians. Observe/identify birds and the nests they make. Simulate tracking animals with radio transmitters. Navigate using Global Positioning System, aerial photographs & land maps. Explore circuitry, energy, bioengineering and economics as you design high-tech prototypes that solve real-world issues. This multi-day field and lab experience is a well-rounded opportunity for those who want to learn about the process of archaeology. Work alongside professional archaeologists on an actual archaeological excavation and survey work. Optional lab hours and local field trips will be available after regular field school hours. No previous experience is necessary. High-school students through adults. Fee includes a one-year MVAC membership. Participants will work alongside professional archaeologists in the field. Weather may require other activities. For students entering grades 5-9.
