Explore Bayfield County (Click on picture) Originally LaPointe County, was created in 1845 from Ashland County, and named after Henry Bayfield, the British Naval Lieutenant who made the first survey of the Great Lakes area. In northwest Wisconsin, the county seat is Washburn.
