Ellison Bay Pottery is celebrating its 30th year as one of the handful of fine potteries that have made the Door County Peninsula well-known as an art adventurer's haven. At Ellison Bay Pottery, both the functional and decorative pieces of pottery derive from potter John Dietrich's decades of experience in handling clay, devising new glazes, and experimenting with new forms.
John studied art at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI and did his post graduate work at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with Paul Donhauser. After deciding studio work was his passion, he sought out Abe Cohn, a potter with a studio/gallery in both Milwaukee and Fish Creek, a small village in Door County. John was Abe's assistant for six years in both studios, before starting Ellison Bay Pottery. John and Diane offer a wide selection of some of the most outstanding pottery in Door County. |
