When you think of Wisconsin -- you have to think about Cheese! Wisconsin leads all other states for making cheese. With a total United States production of 8.88 billion pounds, 27% comes from Wisconsin. On July 23 in Louisville, Wisconsin cheesemakers turned in a super-achieving performance at the annual American Cheese Society competition with 55 awards, including the coveted Best of Show award. The total was the highest for any single state entering the competition. Wisconsin cheesemakers have won the coveted Best of Show award five out of the last eight years. (see cheese categories above)
